Sami Helewa, S.J. is a member of the Canadian Jesuit Province. He is of Palestinian origin, born and lived in Lebanon where he received his first formal education. He has been in Canada since 1981 and entered the Society of Jesus in 1998 after a career in the financial sector and journalism. He was an editor of the G-7 Report - a quarterly periodical on international economics. As a Jesuit, he studied philosophy (2002) and first round of theology at Regis College (U of T, 1998); earned a Th.M and STL from Western Jesuit School of Theology (Cambridge, 2006); an MA in Islam (U of T, 2008) and a PhD in Islam (University of Edinburgh, 2012). He completed his tertianship in Ghana, Africa, in the first half of 2013. He is awaiting for final vows and since July 2013 he has been appointed a teaching post at Campion College (Regina, SK) where he teaches Islam, Catholic Studies and Arabic. In his spare time, Sami enjoys reading about spirituality, historical novels, biographies, cooking, hiking and doing stained glass projects.
